Slash Neck Jumper
’A 1940s-inspired Slash Neck jumper, knit in modern 4-ply wool’

Inspired by the original 1940s jumper knitting patterns published in Stitchcraft Magazine, this new pattern is aimed at the beginner knitter. It has a slash neck and a wide hem typical of the 1940s with a slight puff to the sleeve. There is a small stitch pattern giving a textured feel to the main body of the jumper. Instructions are given for both short and long sleeves.

There are guides to blocking pieces and setting in sleeves plus a gallery of alternative stitch patterns that could be used for the main body of the jumper.

MATERIALS
6 50g balls (or 300g of a 500g cone) of 4-ply merino wool
1 pair of 3mm (UK no 11) and 1 pair of 3.25mm (UK no 10) knitting needles
A tapestry needle

TENSION
26 stitches and 34 rows to 10cm using 3.25 mm needles and stocking stitch

MEASUREMENTS
Long sleeve seam is 18.5 inches, short sleeve seam is 4.5 inches (adjustable)
Hem to armpit is 13 inches (adjustable). Back measures 20.5 inches
