After much frustration in finding a good crochet pattern for a Doctor Who: Fourth Doctor, Season 12 scarf that included yarn recommendations, I decided to compile suggestions from multiple other patterns and create one of my own. After making a full-sized scarf, I realized that while it was gorgeous, it was also A) heavy and B) too long for my short body to wear on a daily basis, hence the creation of this half-sized pattern!

Not only do I provide row counts for a scarf that is a comfortable 7 ft x 5 in (without tassels, given the tension I crochet at), but I have also added my favorite inexpensive yarn choices for a fully acrylic as well as for a wool-blend scarf. If you would like to purchase more expensive yarns, I’ve also given the information for which paint chips (available at many home improvement stores) to collect for approximate color matching.

Using the Tunisian knit stitch, this scarf took me under a week to complete and looks like a knitted scarf. Given a good sale and/or coupons, you could create a reasonable, half-sized facsimile of Tom Baker’s scarf for around $20!
