After much frustration in finding a good crochet pattern for a Doctor Who: Fourth Doctor, Season 12 scarf that included yarn recommendations, I decided to compile suggestions from multiple other patterns and create one of my own.

Not only do I provide row counts for a scarf that is approximately 17 ft x 9 in (without tassels, given the tension I crochet at), but I have also added my favorite inexpensive yarn choices for a fully acrylic as well as for a wool-blend scarf. If you would like to purchase more expensive yarns, I’ve also given the information for which paint chips (available at many home improvement stores) to collect for approximate color matching.

Using single crochet, this scarf took me about three months to make. Given a good sale and/or coupons, you could create a reasonable, facsimile of Tom Baker’s scarf for under $50!
