500 Years Cowl
I designed this oversized knit cowl and motif collection in honor of 500 years of Anabaptist history. January 21st, 1525 is considered the birth date of Anabaptism, a religious movement during the Protestant Reformation that began in Zurich, Switzerland. My Mennonite and Amish heritage is often an inspiration for my creative textile work, within themes of everyday life.
This PDF includes basic instructions for the oversized cowl I made as a sampler. I’ve also included the individual motif charts so that you can mix and match the designs for your own colorwork projects.
NOTE: This is my first self-designed knitting pattern. I’m making it freely available because I want others to be able to enjoy the motifs that I’ve created. It has not undergone pattern testing other than the sampler cowl that I made for myself.
Supplies I used:
-Interchangeable circular needles size 6 (4mm) for body of project (24” cable)
-Interchangeable circular needles size 5 (3.75 mm) for ribbing (24” cable)
- Main color: 2 skeins Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted (in color Cloud)
-Contrast color: 2 skeins Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted (in color Peacock)
