777 - a family beanie
A snug fitting beanie designed for my machinist son who works on a certain airplane for a certain company, the pattern was quickly adopted by my daughter-in-law who wanted one for both herself and their baby girl – thus, a family beanie was born! Knit in 1x3 ribbing, the 777 is super stretchy providing full coverage of the ears; alternatively, it can be worn cuffed to reveal a cute set of earrings as well as the 3x1 ribbing underneath. The perfect beanie for the trendsetting family, the 777 is a straightforward pattern that lends itself well to social knitting and works up quickly! Why 777? Knit on US 7 needles, for 7 inches (in the original xl size) and finished with a 7-row decrease. I added a preemie size so there would be 7 sizes, too.
Sizes: Premie (0-3 mo., 3-6 mo., 6-12 mo., toddler/child, teen/adult, adult xl)
Finished Measurements: approximately 5 (5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8)” from crown to brim; fits head circumference up to 12 (18, 18, 20, 24, 24, 24) inches
Needles: US 7 (4.50 mm) 16” circulars or size to obtain gauge
Note: Use a US 8 if you tend to be a tight knitter! :slightly_smiling_face:
Notions: yarn needle, stitch marker
Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rows = 4” in 1x3 ribbing
