You are probably familiar with Red Heart Yarns. Their social media manager (she posts to Facebook, Instagram, etc.) recently got married. About 25 designers created crochet squares that were then put together into one big blanket as a wedding gift to her.

And this is my contribution to that blanket! It’s called the Reversible Heart Square. This is a nice, simple, 12-inch square made of all single crochet stitches. It’s a good way to practice following a graph or chart.

The techniques used in this square can apply to making any other crochet item, such as a picture afghan. And those blankets are sometimes called a graphghan (graph + afghan). Although there isn’t a formal word for working with blocks of color in crochet, it is very similar to intarsia knitting. Therefore we’ll call the overall technique used in this block intarsia crochet.

Because it uses the intarsia color changing technique, it is reversible - the image looks the same on both the front and back side.

There is a video tutorial on the tips and tricks of changing colors for this square.
