Holidays in the country, holidays by the sea, days aboard ship, and days spent tramping in the bush—they all call for a beret, as a smart finish to one or another of the fastidious girl’s outfits.

It is not easy for the smart dresser, who wants to look different, to reconcile her need for a beret, with her desire for distinction, as this class of headwear is rather stereotyped in design. The cheeky little cap in this picture, however, has been designed to satisfy her. It achieves its chic through being crocheted in sections, which reveal their joins to the world, instead of concealing them as less daring berets do.

MATERIALS: 4 skeins heavy pearl cotton; 1 crochet-hook, No. 2½.

STITCH: Double crochet.
