As the weather grows colder, not everyone wants to pull on a sweater or coat. This cape, or capelet for the shorter version, is a perfect alternative. Knitted here in eyelash yarn, it’s a party accessory, keeping your hands free but shoulders and back warm and cozy.

the amount of yarn needed can vary widely because the length is a personal preference. The cape photographed is 15 inches in length.

The cape in the photos is very wide and flowy, with lots of room to move around. For broad shoulders and/or a large bust, i would recommend this size because this garment is intended to be loose fitting, and should not restrict movement.

Variation 1 gives alterations for a less flowy version. It is not smaller all over, just narrower down over the shoulders.

Variation 2 is a children’s cape, not intended so much for outdoors as it is for play. I included it at the end because capes are probably THE most requested item by kids for play and dress up. This should take the guess work out.

Any or all of these patterns can be “stash buster” projects - i have shown solid colored ones but stripes or color work would look equally as stunning. There are no rules as to what colors, or how many colors can be used, and since its kind of a wild piece, the more colors the better!
