When looking for a plain square to make an afghan, I decided I didn’t like the look of traditional granny squares, so I wanted to make something that was still plain enough for what I needed, but looked different from a basic granny square.
I used trebles, half trebles, and treble clusters to achieve a bigger square with only 4 rounds. Using worsted weight yarn and an I hook (5.5 mm), a finished square is between 6 and 7 inches, and uses around half an ounce of yarn.
Gauge is unimportant for this square.
