A Blaze Of Light is a triangular shawl knitted in garter stitch from one top corner to the opposite side. A serrated border with lace detail is worked on one edge at the same time as the main shawl before it turns at the point using short rows. The border pattern then continues across the end of the shawl, incorporating live stitches from the main shawl until none are left. The simplicity of the design and the use of garter stitch makes this a versatile pattern that easily showcases variegated yarns, or luxury fibres where the pattern should be secondary to the yarn itself.

Materials Needed:
- @400 yards fingering weight yarn
- 4mm (US size 6) needles or size required to meet gauge
Optional:
- two stitch markers to separate border stitches from main shawl
- one removable stitch marker to mark front of work
- blunt darning needle for weaving ends

Gauge: 22 sts x 44 rows = 10cm (4”) in unblocked garter stitch
Gauge is given for the unblocked fabric because people’s rate of blocking for shawls may be quite different.
Note that I do not consider gauge to be important for a shawl; rather, it is important to achieve a fabric with a drape you enjoy. Keep in mind, however, that a very different gauge from that called for in the pattern will change the amount of yarn needed to complete the shawl.
