A Celtic Quilt 2
The Celtic Quilt Fest KAL is an ongoing KAL for this pattern and A Celtic Quilt 1 - do come and join us!
Also available as a knitCompanion design from Create2Thrive.
A Celtic Quilt 2 combines a delectable collection of cable-and-lace blocks into a quilt landscape ~ an heirloom knit to be treasured.
Pattern Notes
This Celtic quilt consists of 9 individual cable-and-lace blocks, each surrounded by a composite border; the outer edge of the quilt is finished with an I-Cord Bind Off. The only sewing required are a few tiny stitches to join the I-Cord ends.
The Ravelry pattern includes 2 PDFs:
- The General Directions including charts (24 pages) and
- a separate PDF which includes the Written Directions for Charts (28 pages).
Construction Notes
Each block begins with a Provisional Cast On (PCO). Once the cable-and-lace pattern is complete, stitches are picked up along each side of the block as well as from the PCO to work the border. This border is worked in the round, outward; increases are worked at each of the four corners to help the border lie flat. After the final round is complete, stitches are placed on waste yarn so blocks can later be joined using a 3-Needle Bind Off (link to a photo tutorial provided; full instructions for this bind off are not included in this pattern).
Yarn Notes
Other yardage information you might find helpful:
Each block (approx.): 266yds / 243m
Joining blocks and I-Cord BO only: 100yds / 91.5m
Needle Notes
Blocks may be worked on straight needles (gauge size) but a circular needle is required to work the borders for each block.
-
4.5 mm / US7 circular needle 32” / 81cm or size required to obtain gauge and
-
5 mm / US8 one DPN or one size larger than gauge needle (for 3-Needle Bind Off to join blocks and I-Cord Bind Off) and
-
One spare 32” / 81cm circular needle for joining blocks and picking up sts from the Provisional Cast On (PCO) (two sizes smaller than gauge size works well)
Notions
Stitch markers, 2 cable needles, tapestry needle, waste yarn
Using these blocks with the A Celtic Quilt 1 pattern:
It is possible to use A Celtic Quilt 2 (ACQ2) blocks with the A Celtic Quilt 1 pattern. For the ACQ2 blocks, one additional row will need to be worked beyond the charts given in this pattern; work that Row 78 as set i.e. knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches, and then follow instructions for the Single Moss Edging in the A Celtic Quilt 1 pattern.
