A Dash of Shawl
I dyed some sport weight yarn as tests for colours for a sweater I was planning. In the end, I had several shades of wool that I thought would work great in a garter stitch striped scarf. My problem was that by introducing stripes I would create a ‘wrong side’ to my garter stitch, which could show on the scarf when I wore it. I decided to add ‘A Dash of Shawl’ shaping to the scarf so that it would easily wrap around the neck without the wrong side ever seeing the light of day. (Or the light of winter, which I must admit is dark enough that maybe no one would have noticed.)

’A Dash of Shawl’ is a garter stitch scarf with shawl shaping to divide the scarf into 5 or 7 sections, depending on which size you make. The shaping gives it a really nice drape and makes it an easy wrap to wear. A bit of striping allows for some options, and is a good way to divide up the knitting on what is otherwise a basic beginner pattern.
