A Few of my Favorite Things: A MKAL
Many designers of MKALs give a beautiful descriptions of what inspired their designs, usually a particular landscape or their garden or some other lovely thing. Unfortunately, I don’t have any profound inspiration to share with you. I just really love knitting short rows and mosaic color work and felt inspired to combine them in this asymmetrical triangular shawl. I also love to play with color, and this shawl makes a wonderful canvas for that.
Materials:
I’ve designed this shawl to be knit in either fingering or worsted weight yarn. Regardless of which weight you choose, the shawls will turn out approximately the same size.
The pattern is written for three colors of yarn. All should contrast well with each other. In both samples, Color A is variegated or speckled, and Colors B and C are solid. If you opt for this, I recommend that Colors B and C coordinate with but do not exactly match any of the colors in Color A. You could use as few as two colors or many more. Clue 3 would be a great place to use up colorful leftovers.
Fingering Weight:
375 yards each of three colors. Sample was knit using Color A: Black Trillium Fibre Studio Lilt Sock in Super Happy Fun; Color B: Sweet Tea Yarns Sweet Sock in Dad’s Worn Denim; Color C: Sweet Tea Yarns Sweet Sock in Dreamsicle. US4 needles, 5 each of 4 different stitch markers (these will be marker A, Marker B, Marker C, and Marker D).
Worsted Weight:
315 yards each of three colors. Sample was knit using Malabrigo Rios in Color A: Arco Iris; Color B: English Rose; Color C: Apple Green. US8 needles, 4 each of 4 different stitch markers (these will be Marker A, Marker B, Marker C, and Marker D).
Gauge:
Because this is a shawl, gauge isn’t crucial. However, any variation from the gauge listed here will affect your yarn requirements. Lightly blocked gauge in modified garter stitch: Fingering: 24 sts/4” Worsted: 18 sts/4”.
Because this is a MKAL, instructions will be released a bit at a time. The first bit will be included in the information sheet you receive when you purchase the pattern. It’s the smallest set of instructions, and it makes an excellent gauge swatch. The other release dates will be:
Clue 2: January 7
Clue 3: January 14
Clue 4: January 21
Clue 5: January 28
I would love for you to join me on this fun MKAL journey! It will be a fun way to start 2020!!
