A Game of Two Halves
A Game of Two Halves is exactly that - you use half of your yarn getting to the midway point and then produce a mirror image of your work to finish it. The pattern is entirely reversible, no need to fuss to get it on the right way around. No purling, no curling edges, once you’ve worked the little bit of lace at the tip, this is all very easy knitting till you’re ready to wind up the project and work the other decorative end.
I’ve worked it with a single skein of sock yarn but this pattern is very adaptable. You can make it as wide and as long as suits any yarn you care to use. Make it wider and knit it in lace-weight for a lovely light wrap. Use a heavier yarn to make a scarf to withstand the rigors of mid-winter. You could even work the two halves in different colours.
On sock-weight yarns and finer, you can use size 6 or size 8 seed beads, for chunkier yarns look for larger, light wood or plastic beads (or forgo beads altogether if they aren’t your thing). The beads give the decorative ends of this scarf better draping properties and, of course, they’re pretty!
The model used 93g and is 150cm long by 22cm wide after blocking. Pattern is very adjustable.
This pattern was included in instalment two of the Vintage Purls Summer Sock Yarn Club 2014.
