Description
This triangular shawl is knitted sideways. It is asymmetrical as the starting tip is narrower & longer than the ending tip.
It has a slightly flared ending edge.
Skills required
If you know how to knit & purl, increase & decrease stitches, you can knit this.
Stitch Patterns
The Gathering Stitch pattern is alternating between ‘gathered’ Stockinette & plain Garter Stitch sections. The Gathering effect is created by 1 increase row at the beginning & 1 decrease row at the end of the Stockinette sections. The stockinette sections on this shawl are 20 rows tall.
Size
The overall size of your shawl will depend on the yarn weight & needle size you’ll use, as well as on the length you’ll want to knit.
My sample shawl measures 170 x 80 cm. It was knit with a “long color-changing” yarn & 5,5 mm needles.
Optional: I chose to knit the End Garter section with 5 mm needles to soften the flare.
To soften the curling of the side edges, add a couple more border stitches in garter pattern on either side. This should lengthen & widen the narrow tip, too.
There is a FREE shawlette version -> https://ravel.me/a-gathered-triangle-shawlette. It differs from the shawl version in that the ‘gathered’ stockinette sections are a bit narrower with only 12 rows, and there is no flare to the ending edge.
