A Helm for Vikings
True fact: real Vikings (c. 800 – 1000) didn’t have horns on their helmets. Truer fact: helmets with horns are glorious. Truest fact: this knitted Viking helm is 100% anachronistic awesome. The delicate, light, and curved horns are small enough to be manageable on the battlefield but large enough to strike fear into your enemies’ hearts. Quirky, cozy, and just long enough to cover your ears, this hat will keep you toasty-warm while raiding Scotland—or the mall.
Techniques required are knitting in the round, decreases (K2TOG, SSK, and SL2-K1-PSSO), provisional cast-on, grafting, and short rows.
Directions for size modification are included. Requires a small amount of fiber-fill or yarn scraps to stuff the horns.
