A Pretty Big Acorn
This pattern is for an oversize acorn. The main body of the acorn can be easily adapted for knitting in the round, although working flat is just fine if you don’t mind a little seam work. The finished object measures approximately 4.5” in length (without stem) when worked using size US 6 needles and Aran weight yarn. Great on its own, or modified to function as a baby rattle or tree/garland ornament.
NOTIONS:
• Pair US 6 / 4.00 mm straight needles or DPNs/ circulars if working I-cord
• Sewing Needle
MATERIALS:
• 5 g Acorn Color (Heavy Worsted to Bulky Wt.) • 2 g Cap Color (Heavy Worsted to Bulky Wt.)
• Poly-fill
GAUGE:
Different size needles and yarn can be substituted. Gauge is not important for this project so long as the yarn used is a bit more bulky than recommended for the needles you have chosen. If your fabric is see-through enough for the stuffing to bleed through, consider using shredded yarn in a matching color to stuff. Mind that the gauging for the Acorn and Cap colors should be roughly the same, although the Cap yarn can be a bit lighter in weight than the main color.
SKILLS:
Basic knitting technique, including I-cord, stockinette stitch, seed stitch, and simple increases/decreases. Basic seaming.
