A Second Chance for Mr. Rushworth Socks
Poor Mr. Rushworth! The intertwining of the twisted-stitch cables in these men’s socks represents the hope that he eventually meets a nice young lady who will appreciate his good qualities as Maria Bertram never did. These socks feature a short-row heel, twisted ribbing that extends onto the heel and toe, and a reverse stockinette stitch sole.
NOTES
• The smallest size has one rib on either side of the central Lover’s Knot cable; the larger sizes have two.
• Leg length is the same for all sizes and can be adjusted by about 1¾“ by adding or subtracting one 19-round repeat of each cable chart.
• The foot should end with the cable portion of a chart if possible; if necessary, work several rounds in Twisted Rib to reach the desired length.
Correction: The instructions for Twisted Rib in rows should read as follows:
RS: Work all knit sts through back loop and all purl sts as normal.
WS: Work all purl sts through back loop and all knit sts as normal.
This allows the ribbing pattern of the leg to continue onto the heel.
