Fashionable ladies of the Regency period wore beautifully draped sheer gowns in delicate shades of white and pale pastels. The necklines of their evening dresses were often cut quite low to highlight the chest area and women used diaphanous scarves to cover their shoulders. These lightweight scarves served as an inspiration for this design. The delicate lace pattern is reminiscent of a beautiful bouquet of flowers, so the shawl could have been worn by Emma on her wedding day and later used as an evening wrap throughout her life.

Please note that there is an error in the bind off description. It should be #P2tog, p1, return stitches to left needle, rep from # to end.

Blocked gauge: 19 sts and 29 rows = 4” in St st on smaller needles (US6).
