A Study in Colorwork: Knit Edition
This pattern was produced as a result of a design & charting questions I received via my Periscope channel. I furthermore took it upon myself to work up the design in as many mediums as possible that chart would allow for in order to compare & contrast.
~
This motif originates from the flag of the Nation of Islam, the specific design was chosen & approved by K. Muhammad. I did samples in various colorwork techniques in order to determine which had the clearest design and the functionality of different methods. It truly became a “study in colorwork” to learn & sort out each technique.
Notes:
- Read through the entire section you are working on before beginning.
- Check gauge to ensure correct proportions, fit, & size.
- Be sure to keep stitches & tension consistent, especially between color changes to ensure a neat end design. Twist colors as necessary & in the proper way to minimize gaps in the work.
- To minimize the amount of paper for this pattern I have kept all sections (Difficulty Level, Techniques Used, Materials, Stitches Used, Special Techniques, Abbreviations, Gauge, & Finished Size) within the first few pages of the pattern, and not repeated them with each technique.
- Some of the techniques used within this study are stand alone, while others are combined. What is provided here is by no means an exhaustive list of how to combine techniques, so much as an expression of the natural ways to combine them.
A Note About Gauge: Not applicable, this study was done to determine visual values and gauge will differ from person to person & based on the yarn/thread & hook/needles used. To determine your personal gauge (X” = Y stitches x Z rows) work a 4” sample in the appropriate stitch pattern and determine your stitch & row count. To make a smaller sample, adjust yarn/thread & hook/needles down to get the desired size, working sample to pattern.
Some techniques are not available in Version 1, but will be made available in Version 2.
