A Subtle Scare is a top-down, long-sleeved pullover with a slight A-line silhouette that is worked mostly in-the-round. Fair Isle patterning adorns the yoke and sleeves. Instructions for the Fair Isle patterns are both written and charted. German short rows are used to shape the neckline after the Fair Isle yoke pattern is completed. This sweater is designed to be worn with 0” to 4” (0 to 10 cm) of positive ease. The measurements given are the finished measurements, so be sure to choose a size that will give you the recommended ease.

The design of A Subtle Scare was influenced by the yarn itself and the desire to create a sweater that maybe worn at other times of the year, in addition to the Halloween season. The gentle halo produced by the yarn creates a subtle view of the Fair Isle design. Thus the cats, ghosts, and spiders are present, but they also blend into the overall yoke design.
