A Sweet Baby Blanket
The Feather & Fan stitch pattern is an old knitting favorite. Its a stitch with a lot of bang for your buck. The simple act of pairing yarn overs with knitting two stitches together gives you a beautiful undulating wave pattern. This is by no means a ground breaking pattern, there are many variations out there, but its my little twist on an classic. You can knit it all in one color, or add stripes as shown. I used an easy to launder soft acrylic, but you could make a special heirloom gift with a lovely soft merino or cashmere.
You can customize this little blanket by varying the yarn weight and needle size, or adding and subtracting pattern repeats, which is 12 stitches per repeat.
Gauge: The gauge of this blanket is not terribly important, as there really is no fit to worry about. Using the Loops and Threads Snuggly Wuggly sport weight wool I got
24 stitches and 26 rows per 4 inches in
the Feather & Fan pattern. The width of the finished piece measures 19.5 inches, the length is 25.5 inches.
For gauge listed you will need: Circular US#6 Needles (4mm) Approx. 450 yards (5.5oz) of a sport weight yarn.
Darning needle for finishing.
