A Sympathetic Ear
On the theme of friendship…
… a triangular shawl with wide crescent border, worked top-down from a small cast-on. The four lace stitch-patterns were chosen to reflect the theme: Synergy, Resist, Hug and Friendship.
The size is adaptable: the two laces that create the shawl body may be repeated as you please - you can use just one, or combine the two ad lib - and the lace of the border may be extended to make best use of your yarn. There is also a choice between working the spine with crossed stitches (as in the green sample shawl) or with openwork knots (as in the grey/pink shawl).
Suitable for any yarn, from fingering to cobweb weight, that knits with good stitch-definition. The two samples were worked in heavy laceweight merino/silk:
- The green gradient shawl used approx. 89g = 535m/585yds.
- The grey-to-pink gradient shawl used approx. 90g = 540m/590yds.

Please note that the pattern is given as charts only, with little written explanation. It should present no difficulties to knitters with experience of working lace and the ability to read their stitches, but is not really suitable for beginners.
If you have any problems with the pattern, please pm me and I shall try to help.
