Summary Small bag with lace edging and beaded fringe. Bag is knitted to fit the blocked lace edging (approx 6-1/4” by 5” (16cm by 13cm). Lace pattern is both charted and written.

Additional Gauge Info For the lace edging: 2 blocked repeats of the lace pattern is 6-1/4 X 4-1/2”.

Additional Materials 2 or 3 snaps. Beads (see below).

Additional Info Directions for the fringe are not included; all bead info had to be requested with a SASE (see notes from the designer below).

Designer’s Notes: First published in Knitter’s Magazine 37, Winter 1994, this versatile bag can also be found in the book “Bags- a Knitters’ Dozen”, complete with lace chart and graphs and instructions for beading. I like to line the bag with a simple rectangle of silky lining fabric. Although the original instructions did not call for a lining, out of deference to non-sewing knitters, a rectangular lining is easy enough to hand sew and tack to the top of the finished bag. (A great place to hide the magnetic snaps now widely available.) I also like to knit the basic bag with a graceful, paisley-like pattern in a subtly contrasting second colour. I understand this bag is still popular for weddings and hope to offer this updated pattern chart as a free download soon.
