A washcloth pattern for knitting teachers
Do you teach people to knit and want something more likely to be completed than a scarf and more interesting than a peggy square for their first project?
This can be completed quickly and doesn’t use much yarn, is interesting, just a little bit magical and gives beginners a chance to practice something over and over.
Gauge and yarn aren’t really important and there is a variation so you can do a plain garter stitch circle if you wish. Yarn choice affects the finished size and what you might use it for.
Techniques include Chain selvedge, Judy’s Magic Cast On, German short rows, Garter stitch grafting, Suspended cast off and Yarn over increases.
As the teacher you can substitute with other techniques so that beginners can practice and compare them. If you’ve ever wanted a good project for teaching “knitting back backwards” this is it.
Do you want to teach purl? No problem – the pattern still works if you do the garter stitch in all purl. Why not teach one in all-knit and the other in all-purl?
