A Wink and a Whisper
This project was entitled A Wink and a Whisper because of the flirtatious, playful nature of the wrap. It is easy to imagine reaching for this as your go-to shawl for date night or meeting friends for an evening on the town. The ruffle is eye-catching and makes this piece a joyful accessory. The staggered eyelets are fun to knit and bring additional visual interest to the wrap.
This project begins by casting on the ruffle edge and working this feature first. These stitches are decreased and the body of the shawl is created using short-rows. Pretty eyelets are worked into the design using double yarn overs.
I made my sample for this shawl using Evil Little Goats’ newest fingering weight yarn, Roots. This yarn is amazing! Through my collaboration with Dione, I learned that the yarn is 100% Rambouillet wool, superfine / 21+ microns and is both climate beneficial and Fibershed certified. Which is a long-winded way of saying it is unbelievably soft, but also has enough oomph that it is perfect for the design features I chose for the shawl. It allows the ruffle to stand on its own and lets the eyelets to really pop! I loved working with this yarn and highly recommend it for this design!
