Aalto mittens
Aalto means a wave in Finnish, and the cable patterns on these mittens were inspired by the frozen wave formations on the sea shore at the beginning of winter. The mittens are worked in sport weight yarn and I think the details show best if worked with yarns that have a good stitch definition and in solid, semisolid or slightly tonal colorways.
The mittens are started with a provisional cast on, that is later undone to create a double folded cuffs that keep your wrists warm. The palm-side, the thumb and the thumb gussets are worked in purl stitch to make the cables and the twisted rib to really pop. The length of the mittens is easily adjustable to fit your own hands, and there are three size options to choose from.
