Abbot is a crescent-shaped shawl in three sizes. Knit in fingering weight yarn from the bottom up, the shawl features a pie crust ruffle, dainty three-dimensional lace edging, and two-color linen stitch body. The linen stitch is perfect for a combination of solid and short color-run variegated yarns that look so beautiful on the skein, but are difficult to use in a shawl.

The body is shaped using short rows, with colors alternating every two rows (working only one color at a time). The unused color is carried up the side, minimizing the finishing required.

The sample shawl is shown in size medium, knit in Classic Elite Alpaca Sox.

The size medium sample used almost all of the 450yd main color skein. Looser knitters may want to buy additional yarn (or do top edge with contrasting color).

The shawl has a long cast on to create the ruffle. Tips are included in the pattern as well as on my blog. The blog also has guidance on choosing colors and maintaining an even tension when switching colors.
