Abbotsbury Mittens
“Come, run up hwome wi’ us to night,
Athirt the vield a-vroze so white,
Where vrosty sheädes do lie below
The winter ricks a-tipp’d wi’ snow.”
William Barnes, Dorset
Abbotsbury in Dorset is home to St. Nicholas’ Church, one of many throughout England to feature stunning encaustic ceramic tiles. In each medieval church I enter, I can’t help but first look down at the beautiful designs: perfect for pattern inspiration. The Abbotsbury Mittens are part of my new Cathedral series.
