ABC Blanket
This crochet pattern provides instructions to make a large, bold alphabet blanket, approximately 164 cm x 118 cm. Perfect for a young child, it will keep them warm and snuggly, as well as being educational! Let them learn the colours of the rainbow, teach them about primary and secondary colours, and let them have fun finding colour patterns in the blanket design - all while incidentally learning the capital (uppercase) letters of the alphabet!
Although time-consuming to make, this blanket will be forever treasured by the one who receives it! A labour of love, made to inspire a love of learning from a young age. (I spent the month of November 2020 designing and making this blanket as a Christmas gift for my youngest son.)
The finished blanket is large enough to be used comfortably on a single bed, and even as a lap blanket for a teen or adult.
The pattern calls for DK yarn in six colours (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple), as well as black, with which to create the letters and border. A 4.00 mm crochet hook is used for the blocks, which are made individually, using the corner-to-corner technique (this is explained in detail in US terms). The specific pattern for each block is given as both a pixel graph, and as a written pattern, for those who prefer one over the other. The border on each block and the border around the edge of the blanket requires a 3.00 mm hook. Approximately 1.5 skeins (100 g) of each colour, and 4.5 skeins of black yarn, are required.
The only additional material required is a darning needle, with which to weave in the ends, and sew the blocks together.
