Abernethy Shawl
The town of Abernethy gets its name from the Celtic ‘aber’, meaning ford, and ‘Nethy’, the name of the Scottish river on which it stands.
Abernethy Shawl is a triangular, asymmetric shawl in two colours. It is worked sideways in one piece, features 3 different stitch patterns and comes in one size only.
Pattern 1 is a lace pattern with nupps, Pattern 2 is a textured stripe pattern in 2 colours and Pattern 3 is a simple chevron pattern.
The shawl is worked in fingering weight yarn. The sample shawl is made with approx. 872 yd (800 m), with 436 yd (400 m) each in colour A and B. For colour B a slightly speckled yarn works really well.
