I spent New Year’s Day 2012 wandering around the magnificent Abney Park, a Victorian cemetery in north London. It was a mild January day; the trees were still bare but there was plenty of green about. A particular highlight was the abandoned Neo-Gothic chapel in the centre of the park. Now in ruins, its gratings and gates inspired these mittens. I just had to make them in shades of green but they would look equally lovely knitted in shades of brick, iron and rust.
