About the Air is a top down crescent shaped shawl, worked from the nape of the neck outwards. The main motif is chosen for its resemblance to the arms of windmills, or helicopter blades, or toy pinwheels, or maple keys spinning in the wind. The secondary motif represents the word “summery,” and is chosen for its natural fit and flow from the first motif. The final motif is a variation of the traditional little arrowhead lace, again selected for the way it flows from the previous motif.

Materials Needed:

• 2 skeins (@800 yards) Cascade Yarns® Sorata
• 4mm (US 6) needles long enough to accommodate 519 sts
• 2 cable needles (strongly recommended)
• 32 stitch markers

Gauge:
14 sts = 2” and 28 rows = 3” measured as shown in the included gauge swatch, unblocked.
Note that I do not consider gauge to be essential for a shawl; if you like the fabric you are getting, go ahead at whatever gauge you prefer. Do keep in mind that if your gauge is looser than recommended, you will need more yarn and will finish with a larger shawl, and vice versa if your gauge is smaller.

A Note on Size:
The pattern as written creates a very generous shawl, and uses the larger amount of yarn listed. For a smaller finished shawl, omit one repeat of the first motif, and expect to use the smaller amount of yarn.
