A knitting pattern for a beautiful mosaic shawl. The shawl is knitted flat on circular needles using stockinette stitch as a base. The edge is ribbing finished with an icord bind-off
The finished project will be around 160cm x 80 cm (63 x 31.5 in).

Included in the pattern:

  • pdf with altogether 10 pages
  • very detailed step-by-step written instructions tons of pictures and helpful tips
  • video tutorials for all knitting techniques are available (on my blog)
  • charts for the mosaic parts

Difficulty: intermediate knitters

This mosaic shawl is a wonderful easy-going evening project with a very easy and simple repeat. The mosaic panels and the Latvian braid add interest but will not pose a great challenge for an intermediate knitter. It does not require any overly complicated stitches, the repeat is easy to remember and the triangular bottom-up construction is also very intuitive.

Yarn and yardage:
A thicker fingering weight yarn with a nice stitch definition. For my samples I used 3 skeins of the Wollmeise Pure (100 g = 350 m/383 yds) in the colors black (C), natural (A), and tulip (B) (altogether 360g or 1260 m/1378 yds). The pattern is designed in a way so you use up almost the complete skeins (~90g in C, 80g in A, and 90g in B).
For the other sample the Zealana Kauri (40 g =153m/167 yds) in the colors kea, green peka, and dark tepo (altogether 320 g or 1224 m/1338 yds).

Skills required:
knit, purl, KLL, KRL, KFB, a Latvian braid and an I-cord bind-off
