This is the instructions for how to create a corner-to-corner rectangle of almost any size with the characteristics of Old Shale. The instructions explain how to determine number of repeats, but the exact number of repeats are not given.

The size of the finished object is entirely up to you. This pattern can be done with single repeat of each chart to make a small wash cloth to a scarf or a king-size bedspread.

Gauge is not as important as in other patterns, except that you should not have more rows than stitches or it will be more difficult to block into shape.

The sample is striped to show how the skeins of yarn will distribute.

For a Twin size blanket, I recommend a US 7, 40” or longer circular needle.

If you prefer using stitch markers, at least 20 for twin size, more for larger sizes.

You will need around 2000 yards of worsted weight for a twin size to around 4000 yards for king size.
