Achilles A Fair Isle Hat
In Greek mythology, Achilles (/əˈkɪliːz/; Ancient Greek: Ἀχιλλεύς, Akhilleus, pronounced akʰilːéu̯s) was a Greek hero of the Trojan War and the central character and greatest warrior of Homer’s Iliad. His mother was the nymph Thetis, and his father, Peleus, was the king of the Myrmidons. This is another hat in the series of Gods and Demigods, I hope you make one for you and one for a friend.
This is a charted pattern NO WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN.
Materials:
You will need a skein of each color, about 110 to 185 yds for MC, and 100 to 170 yds For CC.
Yarn: Main picture Above Medium hat, 126 sts 53 grams
Little Brother by YOTH Yarns
MC “Poppy Seed“, 26 gms,114 yds ; CC “Cracked Pepper“, 27 gms, 118 yds grams
Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi), 100 gms,435 yds;80% Merino,10% Nylon (Polyamide),10% Cashmere
Pattern Notes: If you substitute the yarn, go with fingering weight
yarn with the same Wraps per Inch (WPI)
Needles: US 4, 3.50 mm double pointed needles or 1 or 2 circular needles with cable of 30 ” (or bigger if you are looking to make the hat using magic loop). At one point DPNs will be useful.
Gauge: 2 “ = 11.5 Sts , 16 Rows in Stockinette Stitch (adjust needle size to get gauge if needed)
Notions: Stitch marker, Darning needle, enough waste yarn for provisional cast on, crochet hook.
Finished dimensions before blocking: The unstretched rib band will measure about 18 (22, 25, 28) inches, if you get gauge. If you want a more fitted rib band, you may drop one needle size down. Do your gauge swatch and see how the fabric behaves and decide if you like it or not. Blocked this hat at 126 sts, measured from crown to purl edge about 8.50 inches tall and 22 inches in the round. Blocking this hat consisted of the hat being hand washed, then laid flat to dry. I used a towel to remove the excess water, by patting it to an almost dry point. You may use other ways of blocking as for a tam or a bigger slouchy form. It has a negative ease of about 1 to 2 inches.
