Acorn Rib Socks
Acorn Rib Socks were designed to show off the colors of the self-striping yarn, Trekking XXL, while still allowing the knitter to use a detailed stitch pattern. They will also work well with other colorful yarns in similar weight. The purl ridges highlight the changes of colors, appearing as the rough caps of the acorn, and the pronounced curved knit ribs carry the design across yarn color changes. The stitch pattern is elegant and eye-catching, yet simple enough to use even for men’s socks.
This sock is technically lace, although the holes are not pronounced. It is a beginner level lace as it requires knowledge of only 2 decreases: purl 2 together and purl 3 together, and is highly geometric and easy to follow. Instructions include both charts and written instructions. The sock is knit toe up with an afterthought heel, and requires no knowledge of gussets, short rows or other unique shaping techniques. Although it appears complex, its simple design makes it suitable for an adventurous beginner who is trying lace or socks for the first time.
