Emily Davison, was a notable British suffragette in the early 20th century. She’s best remembered for her bold activism and the enduring legacy of her dramatic protest at the 1913 Epsom Derby, where she stepped onto the racetrack and was fatally injured while attempting to attach a suffrage banner to the King’s horse. Her actions drew worldwide attention to the suffrage cause and the sacrifices made by suffragettes. This sock pattern called Actions Over Words Socks features a unique staggered/slouchy ribbed design and serves as a symbol of empowerment and change and a reminder to make a difference through deeds, not just words.

Gauge: 8.5 stitches/inch on 2.25 mm (US 1) circular needles.

Sizing: 1 (2,3) - which fits a foot circumference of (unstretched) 7 inches (7.5 inches, 8 inches) around.

Cascade Heritage Sock: The sample is knit from Cascade Heritage. I would recommend a 3-4 ply sock yarn that will give you a gauge of 28.0 to 32.0 sts/4 inches. The stitch pattern will compliment just about any yarn colors you choose to use.

Sample: 1 Ball Cascade Heritage Sock 75% Wool, 25% Nylon 437 yards/100g.

Materials: US 1 (2.25) circular knitting needles (or size needed to get gauge), I recommend at least 32 inches (my preferred length). You can substitute DPNs and 9-inch circulars for circulars as well and I’ll show you how.
100 grams of fingering weight sock yarn.
Stitch marker or locking stitch marker (optional)
Ruler or measuring tape.
Darning needle.
Sock blockers to photograph your socks once you’re done! (optional).

Notes: This pattern is written for magic loop, but can easily be changed to DPNs. Use 2 needles for N1, and another 2 for N2. If you’re using 9-inch circulars, there will be notes throughout to guide you.
