Adaira is a beautiful and poetic Scottish girl’s name meaning ‘by the Oak Ford’.

This is a simple cowl, knitted in traditional Fair Isle designs, and an ideal introduction to two-colour knitting and working in the round, suitable for those with a little experience.

As there is no shaping, the width of the cowl can be increased quite easily if required - this will require extra yarn.

The Fair Isle design is worked from a chart and the colours can be changed as required.

I used four 20g mini-skeins but it’s a great way of using up oddments of yarn - particularly variegated ones which can give the effect of a much more complicated design than is actually the case! Just ensure you have plenty of contrast between colours in each section, so the design shows up well.

Colours used:
20g (80m) in Yarn 1 (Moorland Magic)
20g (80m) in Yarn 2 (Lilac Skies)
20g (80m) in Yarn 3 (Deep Purple Dreams)
20g (80m) in Yarn 4 (Winter Dawn)
