Adamant Hearts
This pattern was designed for the Annual Sock Madness. It’s my pleasure to offer you a different type of sock pattern and I’m hoping that you’ll enjoy knitting it!
Origin: Adamant
Old English (as a noun), from Old French adamaunt-, via Latin from Greek adamas, adamant-, ‘untameable, invincible’ (later used to denote the hardest metal or stone, hence diamond), from a- ‘not’ + daman ‘to tame’. The phrase to be adamant dates from the 1930s, although adjectival use had been implied in such collocations as ‘an adamant heart’ since the 16th century.
What will you need?
• 2x50 gram skeins of contrasting sock yarn
• or 1x100 gram skein of (gradient) sock yarn and a rainbow mix of mini skeins with contrasting colours
• 2.5mm(cuff) & 2.75 mm sock needles (US 1.5 & 2)
Size: L (72 sts) for a women’s size 40-42. Go up or down a needle size to change the size.
My finished socks were: Leg from cuff to floor 26cm/10.25”, Foot length 25.5cm/10”, 19cm/7.5” circumference (unstretched)
Gauge: In pattern: 38 sts & 38 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm/ 4” x 4” (unblocked)
Pattern Notes:
A fully charted stranded sock. Have fun following the repeats- if you do it right you should end up with something sockish once you kitchener stitch the last stitches together! Although it is fully stranded, there still are a few spots with longer floats. Do catch them while knitting, or else your toes might!I
PAY ATTENTION to the decreases in the gusset, they may not be what you expect. Knit them in the colour given. I strongly suggest to knit it inside out; ladderback jaquard is not necessary but will give you a stretchier sock.
Turn the sock back to the right side before knitting the last rounds of the toe. The toe is tricky, don’t forget to catch the floats in the last rounds.
In the case that you might have questions about the pattern, there is an archived forum thread with plenty of info. Q&A Adamant Hearts SM 2020
