11.17.13 The pattern has been modified (and updates sent out) to start the thumb gusset 6 rows earlier, in response to several comments that the mittens ran a little short. As the pattern notes, you can place the thumb wherever you like, so please take your measurements and knit to your personal specifications. The pattern modification should be a better “average person” placement, but remember that you are not average. :)

This is the final pattern in the Adiri series (I think?), which includes Adiri, the Adiri Cowl, and the Adiri Slouchy Hat. I certainly have gotten good use from this stitch combination. The pattern is a two-for-one: an over-mitten with the Adiri stitch pattern, and a plain under-mitten in a contrasting color. I have to thank Kristi of Shalimar Yarns for goading me into the under-mittens. These make for an incredibly warm combination, and can stand on their own as a quick, fun introduction to mittens generally. The over-mitten is worked in my beloved Shalimar Haven yarn, and the under-mitten is worked in everyone’s beloved Shalimar Breathless DK.

construction
Both mittens are worked in the round from the bottom up. They are not attached and can be made separately. The Outer Mitten features a lace panel on the top portion of the hand. The Inner Mitten is worked in Stockinette stitch.
