The Adirondack Beanie is your new favorite companion for wintertime hiking in the Northeast woods! The layers of stranded colorwork make it extra warm so that you can stay out as long as you wish without getting cold.

The beanie (or toboggan, if you prefer) is worked bottom-up. First, you work on the two-color brim, then you follow graphic chart A. When you complete the main body of the hat, you follow the second graphic chart and work crown shaping at the same time. After that, you draw yarn through the remaining stitches and finish the hat with a nice faux fur pom pom.

The Adirondack Beanie knitting pattern is a fast, fun project for long winter evenings and it’s great for using up your worsted-weight yarn scraps from other projects.

NOTE: Please note that this pattern wasn’t tech edited or tested as this is something I don’t have the funds or time for at the moment as a full-time working mom of an 11-month old. For this reason, I’m releasing it for free. You can let me know if you find any errors here in the comments or at wildernestknits@gmail.com and I will fix them.

Yarn:
Worsted/aran weight yarn. Yarn used for this design: Rauma Garn VAMS - 91 yards (83 meters) per 50 grams (1.76 ounces), 100% Norwegian wool
* 1 skein each of Black n. 36 (MC), White n. 0 (CC) and Spruce Heather n. 407 (CC1)

Brim circumference: 19 ½ in/ 49 cm (2 ½ in/ 6.5 cm of negative ease)

Difficulty: Intermediate (there are instances of working with three colors in one round which can be a challenge for a beginner)

Special techniques/stitch patterns used: Alternating two-color long-tail cast, Ribbing stitch (both explained in the pattern)

Fit advice:
To adjust the size slightly, you can either use smaller or larger needles. For example, if you use needles that are two sizes bigger, your final hat will be slightly bigger.
Keep in mind that your beanie will likely loosen up overtime.

• Stitch markers (optional - to place around your stitch repeats)
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• Faux fur pom pom
