The pictures scarf was made by casting on 35 stitches however the pattern includes instructions on how to make the scarf in different widths and lengths.

This is a great beginner pattern that can be easily adjusted, and shows how the use of a 3 stitch border will stop your work from curling. It uses two colours but never both on the same row.
