Adjustable Sock Monkey Longies/Shorties
I had so much great feedback once I started making my longies and shorties with an adjustable rise, so I figured I should make a pattern!
This pattern also includes a description of how to use it for normal baby and child pants as well (as in skipping the monkey face and ears). :)
*** tip for those who have already bought the pattern ***
One skein of each color should be more than enough for most sizes. For very long larges and XLs, buy two skeins of your marl or main body color. The ratio of colors is typically around 1 part white (muzzle color), 1 part red (mouth color), 2 parts trim and stripes color, and 4-5 parts main body color. Then just a few yards of black for the eyes. The eyes can be knit in OR done afterwards with duplicate stitching.
What I tend to do is only use the inner 14-16 stitches for the gusset bind off and then pull up 2 “extra” loops from around the gusset and twist into the thighs to close any gaps as well as add a couple extra stitches.
For a baby who wears disposable diapers or an older non-diapered child, just use the middle 8 stitches for the bind-off. :)
Typical small thighs are 51-53st, medium 55-57st, large 59-61st, and XL 61-65st.
