Adriatic Stole
From deep, murky teal to the palest icy blue, this luxury gradient set from Marianated Yarns can’t help but bring all things aquatic to mind. The stole begins with a deceptively simple pattern of flowing lace, followed by slightly more challenging rows of dimensional “knots” that evoke fishermen’s ropes, or perhaps strings of pearls. The stitch pattern naturally pulls the fabric into graceful waves that are emphasized in blocking.
But don’t let the watery imagery keep you from trying the pattern with any of Marianated Yarns’ other, equally lovely gradients!
This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Scrumptious HT, half skein six-color gradient set — 80% superwash merino / 10% cashmere / 10% nylon — 1,200 yds to 300 g in total. Shown in Smooth Sailing colorway, and available at Marianated Yarns.
Sizing:
17” (42 cm) wide and 72” (183 cm) long after blocking, was 18” (46 cm) wide and 80” (203 cm) long when pinned out
Gauge:
23 sts and 30 rows in lace pattern, washed and blocked
Needles:
US 5 (3.75 mm) needles, straight or circular (pointy tips recommended)
PLEASE NOTE: I knit very tightly. I actually used a US 6 (4 mm) needle to achieve this gauge, but knitters who are typically “on gauge” will likely wish to use a US 5 (3.75 mm) needle. Very loose knitters will likely wish to use a US 4 (3.5 mm) needle. Changes in gauge will affect finished size and amount of yarn used.
Other Materials:
6 stitch markers, tapestry needle, plentiful t-pins for blocking
Skills Needed:
Basic lace knitting, slipping sts, k3tog tbl
With many thanks to Marianated Yarns for the gorgeous gradient, and to Corrina Ferguson for tech editing!
