PDF pattern: INCLUDES Photos, detailed pattern, and stuffing tips.

Note: I updated my original pattern that I wrote in 2012.

Finished size is approximately 20 inch circumference and 7 inches in length from crown to bottom of neck .
This will work for older child & adult size hats.

I also include an option to make a larger adult size mannequin head; 22 inch circumference.

Sizes given are based on average head sizes. Variations can occur depending on your gauge, materials used, and stuffing methods and amount stuffed.

Materials needed:

Size F/5 3.75 crochet hook & about 400 yards of medium weight sturdy acrylic yarn or #24 size nylon crochet thread.

(note; #24 nylon crochet thread can be found online; the Hilo La Espiga brand is what I use, or use the cheap, scratchy kind of acrylic yarn-the heavier weight crafty kind, such as Super Saver).

A heavyweight fiberfill to stuff the head; I like to use Morning Glory Premium Polyester fiberfill-it is heavy weight and compacts firmly (the lighter silky type of fiberfill that doesn’t compact down will NOT work for this project)

safety pin to use as a marker (you will need to use a marker for this pattern)

A larger wooden dowel to assist with stuffing

Pattern is worked in the round. The mannequin head is created in two parts: the head and a bottom section which is sewn on with yarn after stuffed.
