Adult's Turkish Lattice Sleeveless Sweater
Inspiration
“This Lattice, with its little square decorations, is a variation that Zoe found in a castle in Switzerland. It was an old piece of printed silk from that treasure house of patterns, Turkey. She was able to do a thumbnail sketch on the spot and commit it to graph paper for knitting later.” (Family Album)
Variations
“There are many looks to be brought out of this geometry. If you knit the large areas as background, all in shades of a given colour, the little squares will float in the foreground (page 162). If you knit the large areas in a more varied colouring, they become pointed crosses and the squares recede into the background (page 162). You can knit the lattice line itself in one colour as it is here or change it at every square.” (Family Album)
Technique
“Turkish Lattice is worked in a combination of fairisle for the lattice and intarsia for the small squares and the large cross shapes. On the last row of each small square, carry the yarn of the approximate large cross along and knit it in so it will be in the right place on the next row.” (Family Album)
