Adventures with Rainbows is a fun sweater that kids are sure to love! Constructed simply with the advanced beginner in mind, this sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down. It features a circular yoke that is very easy to knit and attractive twisted stitch ribbing.
The instructions include both inches and metric measurements.
Yarn:
Worsted weight in solid color and various colored scraps. 10 colors for 12-24 months and 2-3 years.
Up to 10-12 colors for 3-4 years, 10-14 colors for 5-6 and 7-8 years. Or, just use a gradient, self striping yarn or even a solid to cut down on ends to weave in. Or if desired, this is a great pattern to use as a base for your own customization - you can even omit the stripes if you choose.
Yarn Requirements:
Approx 450yds (411m) for 12-24 months
500yds (457m) for 2-3 years
600yds (549m) for 3-4years,
700yds (640m)for 5-6years
800yds (732m) for 7-8 years.
Approx 2oz 56g scrap yarns,self-striping gradient or solid yarn for stripes for largest size7-8y, less needed for smaller sizes.
Finished chest circumferences according to age (customizable):
12-24 months: 24” (61cm)
2-3 years: 26.4” (67cm)
3-4 years: 27.2” (69cm)
5-6 years: 28.8” (73.2cm)
7-8 years 31.2” (79.2cm)
Suggested needle sizes:
For Ribbing: US 4 (3.5mm), 16” circular.
To meet gauge of 5spi: US Size 6 (4mm), 24” circular or 29” circular for largest 3 sizes.
For stretchy collar cast on and bind-offs: US Size 8 (5mm) - 10 (6mm), 16” circular.
