A beautiful member of the daisy family, this Gazania is a must-make! These lovely Gazanias are considered annuals in the cool climates, but in warmer climates, they are short-lived perennials. But the best thing about crocheting them is that you can have them all year round without worrying about them dying!

The easy to follow along pattern comes with step-by-step instructions and clear images to guide you along the way. The most fun part is taking the vibrant colors into your own hands as you play with its many colors… I’ve created a Pinterest Inspiration Board with over 60 flower colors to help you choose the perfect one for your decor.

Gazania Fun Facts

The genus was named after the Greek humanist Theodorus Gaza, who was an influential Greek scholar of the 15th century.

Gazania represents wealth and richness.

Gazania flowers are light-sensitive. They close up at night and on particularly cloudy days. It is a behavior called nyctinasty. Some scientists believe that this behavior prevents pollen from becoming wet and heavy with dew.

The plant is sometimes used in folk medicine to treat pneumonia, sore eyes, headache, earache, and sterility.

Gazanias are native to alpine meadows and low altitude sands of temperate South Africa, with one species extending the range into the tropics.

Interestingly, Gazanias don’t like to stay wet. They come from the rocky cliffs and grassy hills of South African mountains, so they are accustomed to harsh, dry climates.
