The finished chicken, when worked in 4ply yarn, will measure approximately 20cm high and 22cm beak to tail. This will of course vary with weights of yarn and hook/tension. For a larger chicken work in double knit, aran or chunky, adjusting the size of hook you use to match the yarn.

You will need 50g of main colour (in four ply) 20 of secondary colour and scaps for the beak and wattles etc. It is a great pattern to use up all those leftovers as long as they are all the same weight of yarn.

Materials
4ply cotton type yarn in cream, brown, red and mustard 2.5mm and 3.5mm crochet hook
Darning needle
10mm safety eyes
Toy stuffing
Abbreviations
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet inc = increase
dec = decrease
mc = magic circle/magic ring sl st = slip stitch

This pattern is easy to follow but does require basic crochet knowledge of single and double crochet and the ability to work a magic ring. Everything is easily learnt from Youtube if you are not 100% sure. It is written in US terms but easily converted to UK terms.

It is worked in African Flower shapes with instructions in written form with lots of photographs and handy hints to follow for assembly.
